Kovel believes that public art and public sculpture say the best of what we are as a people. Public art should provide enchantment, not Disney enchantment, but self-enrichment. It should feed the soul, capture the imagination and reveal a new understanding of our world.
"Any good art is going to inspire as well as provoke," Kovel says. "Good art has an edge. It broadens the visual language. It forces a new vocabulary into our lives. Good art is not simply decoration."
